If you need to get a repeat prescription for medical cannabis, Curaleaf Pharmacy can help with our step by step guide.
Getting a repeat prescription for medical cannabis will help you make sure you have a steady supply of your medication.
A repeat prescription is a new prescription for medical cannabis where your specialist prescriber will prescribe the same dose (strength) of medication as your last prescription. The amount of medication you get will last you 28 days. Sometimes, the brand of medication you get may vary depending on what’s available on the market at the time.
However, there may be some reasons why a specialist prescriber may change your prescription, and they’ll speak to you about any changes they make.
You’ll need a new prescription, such as a repeat, every 28 days to get more of your medication. This is due to the current laws and regulations around medical cannabis in the UK.
Check with your clinic if you need to book an appointment for a follow-up with your specialist prescriber to get a new prescription, or if you can request a repeat prescription from them.
To find out how you can get a repeat prescription for medical cannabis read through our helpful step by step guide below.
The first step to getting a repeat prescription for medical cannabis is to speak to the clinic where you last got your prescription.
Have a copy of your last prescription to hand and work out how long it will last you. Then let your specialist prescriber clinic know when you received your medication and when you’re likely to run out.
Some clinics have a patient portal, such as an online account or app, and you might be able to request your repeat prescription through there. If you’re unsure how, give your clinic a call to find out.
You should ask to get your repeat prescription at least 10 days before you run out. This will give them enough time to send us your prescription, so you can request your medication from us at Curaleaf Pharmacy.
If you’ve been getting on alright with your medication, then it’s likely the specialist prescriber will agree to write a repeat prescription.
However, you might need to speak to your specialist prescriber or book an appointment if you:
Depending on your specialist prescriber clinic, you might need to pay for them to write you a repeat prescription for medical cannabis. This cost does not include paying for your medication or an appointment.
You pay for your medication separately. We’ll send you a link to do this once we have received your prescription.
Your specialist prescriber clinic will send your repeat prescription for medical cannabis to us in the post. If not, you’ll have to email us a photo of your repeat prescription and send us the hard copy in the post. We legally need the original hard copy to be able to dispense your medication.

Once you’ve got your medication, write a note in your diary or on a calendar to request your next prescription. We recommend you plan this date 10 days before you run out of medication.
Check with your clinic if you need to book an appointment for a follow-up with your specialist prescriber to get a new prescription, or if you can request a repeat prescription from them.
